Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist University Department of Athletics hosted the 5th annual Celebrating Eagles Athletics Auction last Friday night inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
The auction, which serves as CMU Athletics' largest fundraising event of the year, returned following last year's cancelation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We were thrilled to welcome alumni and friends back to campus for one of our most memorable events of the year," said Vice President for Student Life and Athletics, Natasha Wilson. "It is always a pleasure to visit with former CMU athletes and hear their past stories. It was also great to celebrate the accomplishments of our current student-athletes from this past academic year."
With all proceeds directly benefiting CMU Athletics, the auction raised over $80,000.00 which included over 100 silent auction items and several big-ticket live auction items including the game used ball from the Avista NAIA World Series Championship game, and Mrs. Judy Drake's famous Gooseberry pie.
The evening featured a student-athlete Q&A with current CMU student-athletes, men's golfer Nzelu Maitha and women's track & field athlete, Kailey Johnson, who detailed their experiences during their first years as Eagles.
The proceeds from the auction go directly to supporting the educational and athletic success of our student-athletes from providing funds for books, equipment, and apparel needs to assisting with championship travel cost. The graduation of our student-athletes and the journey to championships would not be possible without the continued support.
"We are thankful to everyone in attendance and those who supported us from afar through our online silent auction," added Wilson. "Eagles Athletics would not be where we are today without our alumni and friends' continued support and generosity."
