Eagles Split Games at College of the Ozarks

The Central Methodist University baseball team picked up its second win of the season with a 5-3 victory at College of the Ozarks Sunday afternoon. The Eagles dropped the second game of the doubleheader 13-9.

In game one, CMU was held scoreless through the first four innings while College of the Ozarks took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs on three hits in the inning. Central Methodist answered in the top of the fifth inning. Junior Brennen Wood (West Plains, Mo.) drew a one-out walk. Junior Dustin Ray (Boonville, Mo.) singled to advance Wood to second. Junior Matt Gessner (Lykens, Pa.) and sophomore Mike Allen (Mattawan, Mich.) followed with back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game. Gessner scored and Allen advanced to second base on a balk by the College of the Ozarks pitcher. Junior Raymond Fuentes Jr. (Isabela, Puerto Rico) singled to center field to score Allen and give CMU a 4-2 lead before the inning ended. Central Methodist added to its lead in the next inning. Senior Thomas Brown (Columbia, Mo.) hit a lead-off double, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Dane Frazier (Mattawan, Mich.). Wood singled to score Brown and give the Eagles a 5-2 lead. College of the Ozarks cut into the CMU lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring one run on three hits, but left two runners stranded in the inning. The Eagles got a pair of groundouts and a fly-out in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 5-3 win.

Junior Freddie Cabrera (Isabela, Puerto Rico) earned the win for Central Methodist, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings, while striking out five. Sophomore Ryan Revoir (Olathe, Kan.) picked up his second save of the season, with a hitless seventh inning of work. Central Methodist finished with 10 hits in the game, while College of the Ozarks had seven. Both teams left five runners on base in the game.

In the second game, Central Methodist plated two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Gessner reached on an error to open the game, and stole second base. Allen hit an RBI double to deep left-center to score Gessner. Allen came around to score on a single to right by sophomore Steve Bazner (Waterford, Mich.). Brown followed with a single, but CMU left two runners stranded to end the inning. College of the Ozarks answered with five runs, including two unearned, on five hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Eagles put together a big second inning to regain the lead, scoring four runs on five hits. Junior Michael Dowd (Marthasville, Mo.) hit a one-out single, and advanced to second on a stolen base. Gessner drew a walk to give CMU runners on first and second. With two outs, the Eagles strung together four straight singles by Fuentes, senior Adam Arnette (Pacific, Mo.), Bazner, and Brown to score four runs and give CMU a 6-5 lead. College of the Ozarks scored seven unanswered runs in its next four innings to give the Bobcats a 12-6 lead after five innings.
