Eagle Baseball Team Splits Pair with Baker
The Central Methodist University baseball team earned a 2-0 win over Baker University after the Wildcats rallied to win game one of the doubleheader 13-7 Saturday afternoon.

In game one, CMU trailed 5-1 after three innings. The Eagles picked up six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead, but Baker answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. The Wildcats added another run in the sixth inning to earn the 13-7 win. Central Methodist scored seven runs on seven hits. Junior Matt Gessner (Lykens, Pa.) and freshman Brian King (Springfield, Mo.) each recorded two hits, while sophomore Steve Bazner (Waterford, Mich.) and senior Adam Arnette (Pacific, Mo.) each had two RBI. Three pitchers threw for the Eagles, with freshman Alex Hunter (Kansas City, Mo.) taking the loss.

CMU scored two runs in the first inning of game two on a hit by senior Thomas Brown (Columbia, Mo.). That was all the offense the Eagles needed as sophomore Zach Hoffman (St. Clair, Mo.) and junior Freddie Cabrera (Isabela, Puerto Rico) combined to pitch a shutout. Hoffman earned the win and Cabrera picked up the save as the two pitchers recorded four strikeouts each, while allowing just two hits apiece. Arnette and junior Raymond Fuentes Jr. (Isabela, Puerto Rico) each went 2-for-4 from the plate in the game.

Central Methodist moved to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Baker sits at 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the HAAC. The Eagles will return to action with their first home HAAC doubleheader of the season Wednesday. CMU is scheduled to take on MidAmerica Nazarene University beginning at 1 p.m.
