Cabrera, Brown Lead Four CMU All-HAAC Baseball Selections

The Central Methodist University baseball team landed four players on the 2011 All-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams, led by junior pitcher Freddie Cabrera (Isabela, Puerto Rico) and senior second baseman Thomas Brown (Columbia, Mo.). Senior first baseman Tyler Belt (Macon, Mo.) and sophomore third baseman Steve Bazner (Waterford, Mich.) each received honorable mention honors for Central Methodist.
Cabrera earned All-HAAC first team honors after posting a 6-4 record in 15 appearances for Central Methodist. He led the Eagles with a 3.06 ERA, and 82 1/3 innings pitched. Cabrera set a school record for single-season strikeouts with 78. In just one season at CMU, Cabrera moved to 13th on the Eagles' career strikeouts list. He threw six complete games and two shutouts on the season. Cabrera was named the HAAC pitcher-of-the-week on April 4 after pitching a pair of complete-game shutout wins against Evangel University and Lindenwood University the previous week.
Brown was named to the All-HAAC second team, and was also recognized as the HAAC Rawlings Gold Glove second baseman. Brown led the Eagles with a 0.344 batting average on the season. He had a team-high 45 hits, including 10 doubles and one triple. Brown finished the season with 19 RBIs and an on-base percentage of 0.399. He also had eight sacrifice hits and eight stolen bases on the season. Brown had a 0.958 fielding percentage while starting at second base in all 40 of the games he played in this season. With his eight sacrifices in 2011, Brown moved up to a tie for fourth on CMU's all-time list for career sacrifices with 21. He also moved to seventh in career doubles with 29, 11th in career hits with 129, and 12th in career at-bats with 414.
Belt received honorable mention honors for the second time in his career, also landing on the honorable mention in 2009 as a third baseman. Belt finished the season with a 0.331 batting average. He was third on the team with 40 hits in 2011, including four doubles, three triples and one homerun. Belt's 22 RBIs ranked third on the CMU team, and he had five sacrifice hits on the season. This season, Belt boasted a 0.994 fielding percentage. Belt finished his career tied for seventh on CMU's all-time career triples list with seven.
Bazner was recognized on the All-HAAC honorable mention after finishing his first season at CMU with a 0.292 batting average. He led the Eagles with 27 RBIs, and ranked fourth on the team with 35 hits. Bazner had an on-base percentage of 0.384 this season, and a 0.906 fielding percentage. Bazner was selected as the HAAC player-of-the-week on March 28 after going 6-for-12 at the plate with five RBIs in four games for CMU the previous week.
