Game Two Box Score
FAYETTE, Mo. - A Neil Hansen walkoff in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Central Methodist a doubleheader Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball split with Peru State. The Eagles (8-12, 3-5 HAAC) lost the first game to the Bobcats (16-8, 3-3 HAAC) 3-1 but rebounded to win the second contest 9-8 in nine innings.
In game one, the visitors scored one run in the first and two in the fourth. Jeff Eubank had a RBI in the first frame. Randy Santiesteban and �Jonathan Castillo posted RBIs in the fourth.
The Eagles scored their only run in the sixth inning. Matt Gessner tripled to center field and later scored on Alfredo Souffront's at-bat.
Peru State's Bryan Duncan (4-1) picked up the victory on the mound. He pitched five innings of six-hit, scoreless ball. Danny Borst got his first save of the season after throwing two innings and giving up one earned run on one hit.
Rhett Quinlan (2-2) suffered the loss, throwing five innings and surrendering three earned runs on seven hits.
In game two, the home team staked to a 5-4 advantage through four innings. The Bobcats tied the game with one run in the fifth inning.
Peru State scored three in the top of the seventh inning to take an 8-5 upper hand. Derek Voigt and Castillo tallied a single and double, respectively, to drive home three runs. However, Central Methodist countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning before winning in the ninth.
Gessner had a RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 8-6. Mason Mershon singled to score Dustin Ray in the next at-bat, making the score 8-7. Three batters later, Gessner scored on a passed ball to tie the game, setting up Hansen's heroics in extra innings.
A critical diving catch by Gessner in the top of the eighth ended a Peru State scoring threat. In the ninth, Mike Allen walked and later scored on Hansen's one-out, bases-loaded single to deep center field.
Central Methodist's Aaron Schuster (1-0), in his first action of the season, grabbed the win with one inning of one-hit, scoreless relief.
Danny Borst (0-2) took the defeat after giving up one earned run on one hit in two and one-third innings.
Central Methodist will host Avila for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
