CANTON, Mo. - Central Methodist dropped the first two games of its series Friday at Culver-Stockton (Mo.) by scores of 10-0 and 5-3 at Nichols Field.
Culver-Stockton (24-23, 15-9) senior pitcher Craig Bastert scattered three hits en route to a victory in the opener, and senior Cyrus Wimberly allowed seven hits and struck out eight as the Wildcats held on in the nightcap.
Bastert allowed singles in the second, third and sixth innings to complete his gem. He walked five, struck out five and needed 121 pitches to improve to 6-3 on the season.
Offensively, Danny Carroll, Cody Jacobson, Jake Hillier and Trent Brisboe all collected two hits each in support of Bastert. The Wildcats had 12 hits overall. Jacobson and Brock Kartheiser recorded two RBI's each.
T.J. Singh, Kyle Poynter and Nick Galenti each had one hit for the Eagles.
In the nightcap, Wimberly slowed the Eagles down through the first five innings before finding trouble in the sixth inning and protecting a 5-0 lead. Wimberly, who allowed only one hit through five innings, gave up five in the sixth as the Eagles closed to within 5-3.
Central Methodist (19-23, 11-13) put the leadoff man on in the seventh inning, but Wimberly got a strikeout, a pop up and a fly ball to end the game and improve to 3-6 on the season.
Offensively, Carroll was 4-for-4 with three runs batted to lead the charge. Jacob Angelo also recorded a multiple hit game, finishing with two safeties.
Mike Wagner had two hits and a run scored for the Eagles in game two.
The Wildcats and Eagles will complete their four-game series tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, with a doubleheader at Nichols Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.�
