CMU ends season with loss to CSC

JOPLIN, Mo. - Central Methodist's quest to win back-to-back Heart of America Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Series titles ended Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Culver-Stockton (Mo.) in a third round elimination game at Wendell Redden Stadium.

Culver-Stockton (27-25), the No. 4-seed in the Series, broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when Brad Gyorkos scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded. Jacobson hit a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat to provide an insurance run.

Five Wildcats each had one hit.

Kyle Poynter had three of the team's six hits for No. 6-seed Central Methodist (21-26).

Brock Kartheiser (7-0) got the win on the mound, scattering six hits with four strikeouts in his third complete game and second shutout of the season.

Pitcher Ian Walsh (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Tyler Paule and Alex Hunter combined for four innings of hitless relief, with Paule tallying four strikeouts and two walks in three innings.
