LAMONI, Iowa - After losing the first game Saturday at Graceland (Iowa) 8-3, Central Methodist responded with a 7-5 triumph at Chase Stadium, as the Eagles and Yellowjackets split a four-game, Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) series.
Central Methodist (19-16, 6-8) trailed 5-4 in the top of the sixth of game two before putting up a four-spot in the frame. With two outs, back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for coach Nate Breland's squad. Joba Ferrell tied the contest when he crossed home on a Brad Cuyos walk. Hayden McMillon followed in the next at-bat with a bases-clearing double to left-center. Chance Sugg, Jalen Miller and Cuyos scored to give the Green and Black a two-run edge.�
Grant Davis (1) came out of the bullpen to limit the Yellowjackets to just one hit with three strikeouts and three walks in the final two innings for the save. Jeremy Karasewski (1-0) earned the win on the mound with two-thirds of an inning of one-hit, scoreless relief.
McMillon was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Ferrell, Sugg and Mike D'Eletto each had two hits. D'Eletto drove in two. Aldo Adamus had two of the team's six walks.
Bryn Redhead recorded two hits in the loss.
Pitcher Cody Gutierrez (1-3) took the loss, giving up four earned runs on three hits with two walks in just two-thirds of an inning of relief.
The Eagles trailed 3-1 in the fourth before D'Eletto and Ferrell produced RBI singles to left. Graceland (13-19, 5-9) regained the lead in the home half of the fifth when Alex Froloff doubled down the right field line to score Tyler Abbott.
Graceland took control of game one in the second inning, breaking a 1-1 tie with five runs in the frame which included a Redhead three-run homer to left on the first pitch of the at-bat. Ferrell uncorked a two-run blast to left on the first pitch of his at-bat in the top of the third to trim the deficit in half, but the Yellowjackets added one run in the bottom of the inning and one in the sixth for the final tally.
William Salas was 3-for-3 in the win.
Dillon Stoner (2-2) went the distance on the mound for the win, giving up three earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk.
D'Eletto (2-3) suffered the defeat, pitching three innings while surrendering seven runs, six earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Davis, Karasewski and Scott Huesemann combined for three innings of three-hit relief, giving up one unearned run with five strikeouts to just one walk.�
Adamus had two hits. Ferrell plated two and scored twice.�
Central Methodist hosts Missouri Valley for a four-game HAAC series April 11-12. First pitch each day is set for 1 p.m. CT.
