Eagles Win Wild Game Against Missouri Valley

Eagles Win Wild Game Against Missouri Valley
Joplin, Mo. The Central Methodist University Eagles baseball team opened up play in the Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball postseason tournament on Thursday afternoon at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, Missouri. The Eagles won the back-and-forth battle late by a final of 13-11, to advance in the winner's bracket in the double-elimination tournament.

With the victory, the Central Methodist University Eagles improve to 40-15 on the year, while Missouri Valley College falls to 27-28 overall with the loss.

Thursday's battle against the rival Missouri Valley College Vikings saw each team score an abundance of runs early, followed by numerous lead changes.

After a scoreless top of the first inning, the Central Methodist offense would strike for five runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 5-0 lead.

Missouri Valley would respond, by scoring nine runs in the top of the second inning, to take a 9-5 lead.

Following a scoreless third inning, Central would put up another five spot, and reclaim the lead at 10-9 after four innings.

Both teams scored two runs apiece in the sixth inning, before Central would tack on another insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 13-11 win.

CMU and Missouri Valley combined for 24 runs on 32 hits and four errors.

Dalton Entwistle (Winfield, Mo.) started at first base for the suspended Logan Bradley (Farmington, Mo.), and filled in perfectly. Entwistle finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI's.

On Thursday afternoon, the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Baseball Teams were released, and Central Methodist University infielder Brennan Hurley (Elsberry, Mo.) was named to the College Division 2016 Academic All-District
3 Baseball Team.

Full Release

"Brennan (Hurley) is an outstanding young man," said CMU head coach Nate Breland. "He is a captain on and off of the field. I am very proud of the year he has had."

The Eagles advance in the winner's bracket to face the 3rd seeded Grand View University Vikings on Friday evening at 7pm at Joe Becker Stadium.
