KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Methodist University outfielder Dustyn Macaluso used a strong week offensively to vault himself into the Heart of America Athletic Conference spotlight when he was named the Player of the Week for games played between April 3-9, the league office announced Monday.
Macaluso, a 5-9 senior from Sacramento, Calif., had a strong week for the No. 10-ranked Eagles, hitting .556 (10-for-18) in four games, crushing three home runs and a pair of doubles. He drove in eight runs and finishing with 21 total bases as he led Central Methodist to a pair of wins against Southern Division tri-leader Benedictine College.
He scored nine runs in the four games, with a dominating slugging percentage of 1.167 and an on-base percentage of .556.
He posted multiple hits in all four contest he played in, highlighted by a 4-for-5 outing in Game 1 against the Ravens on Sunday, when he scored four times, drove in two runs and hit a shot out of the park.
On the season, Macaluso is leading the Eagles in hitting, with a .462 batting average, with 55 hits and 47 runs scored. He has connected with 11 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 28 runs batted in. He also had a .748 slugging percentage on the year. Macaluso ranked seventh in the nation in runs scored per game (1.35), 16th in batting average and 18th in hits per game (1.58).
Central Methodist (26-7, 11-3 Heart), which has won 23 of its last 26 games, will be on the road Tuesday to take on Peru State College in a Heart makeup doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Peru, Nebraska. The Eagles will then travel to Columbia on Wednesday for a nine-inning contest against Columbia College at 6 p.m. CMU will return home on Friday to start a four-game series with Evangel University, playing a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Estes Field.
