KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the second time this season, Mason Schwellenbach (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) received a Heart Weekly Award. After being named Heart Player of the Week with his bat last month, Schwellenbach has now been named Heart Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
In a dominant performance against (RV) Benedictine last Tuesday, Schwellenbach picked up a season-high 17 strikeouts in eight innings of work. Those 17 strikeouts are also the most thrown by a Heart pitcher this season and are the most in CMU baseball history since at least 2006.
He also held the Ravens to only two hits and one earned run. In eight appearances and 38 innings of work this season, Schwellenbach holds a 5-0 record with 61 strikeouts and a 2.61 earned run average (ERA).
Next up for the Eagles is a three-game set with Missouri Valley this weekend at home. A double-header is scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm, with a single game on Sunday, also at 1 pm.
