DES MOINES, Iowa – The Central Methodist University baseball team split with Grand View in a doubleheader event on Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE (Loss 7-4)
The Eagles collected a total of 10 hits in the game, led by Sergio Macias (JR/Laredo, Tex.) and Riley Richarz (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) who racked up multiple hits.
Grand View got on the board first with a run in the first inning, extending the lead with an additional five runs in the third and one in the fourth.
The big inning for Central came in the seventh frame when the squad was able to plate four runs to cut the deficit. Max McCay (JR/Carlisle, Iowa) got it started, plating one on a line drive to centerfield. Macias knocked a single to right field, plating two, followed by a double from Adrian Martinez (JR/Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) that would bring home the final run for the squad.
Kyle Fulton (SR/Monroe City, Mo.) took the loss at the mound. He went four innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out six.
GAME TWO (Win 11-0)
The Eagles racked up 10 hits in the win, led by Z Westley (JR/Midland, Mich.) and Richarz who both posted multiple hits. Luis Sterling (SR/Bronx, N.Y.) got the team on the board first, scoring on a passed ball in the second inning. A single from Martinez plated another run in the same frame to give the squad a 2-0 advantage.
Central posted two more runs in the fifth after Logan Haring (JR/DeKalb, Ill.) singled to centerfield, plating one, and Westley brought home a runner on a double to left field.
The seventh inning was highlighted six unanswered runs to secure the win. Macias got things started, bashing a two-run homer over the right field fence. Bats were ignited with Mason Schwellenbach (JR/Saginaw, Mich.), Julio Canales (JR/Canovanas, Puerto Rico), Sterling, and McCay each earning RBIs in the rally to close out the victory.
Peyton Long (JR/Des Moines, Iowa) got the start and the win for Central. He allowed six hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking none.

The Eagles continue their trek through Iowa tomorrow afternoon (April 20) with a doubleheader at William Penn. The first pitch of game one is set for 1 PM in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
