OZARK, Mo. – The Central Methodist University baseball was eliminated in the 2019 Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament after suffering a 2-1 loss to Mount Mercy on Sunday evening.
The Eagles scored their lone run of the game in the 5th inning after a single from Max McCay (JR/Carlisle, Iowa) plated one. The Mustangs plated one run to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th on a fielder's choice, scoring the winning run just one batter later on a passed ball.
Julio Canales (JR/Canovanas, Puerto Rico), Jose Mieses (JR/Santo Domingo, Domincan Republic), Z Westley (JR/Midland, Mich.), and McCay each registered one hit in the contest. Adrian Martinez (SO/Toa Alta, Puerto Rico), Logan Haring (JR/DeKalb, Ill.), and Sergio Macias (JR/Laredo, Tex.) each reached on base after a walk.
Manny Martinez (JR/Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) took the loss at the mound after entering for the final inning. The Eagles bullpen was busy as Felix Pena (SO/Bronx, N.Y.), Luke Gray (SO/Fulton, Mo.), Cody Malan (JR/Springfield, Mo.), and Alex Moore (JR/Santee, Calif.) each made appearances that did not factor into the final decision.
The Eagles wrap up the season with an overall record of 34-13. The team will have to wait until Thursday to find out if they've earned an At-Large bid to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round. The announcement will be made here at 4 pm on May 9.
