KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Senior pitcher Mason Schwellenbach has earned preseason recognition on a national scale after being named to the NAIA Preseason Baseball All-America team. The 17-player list is selected annually by the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association (NAIA-BCA) All-America Committee.
Schwellenbach was named to the NAIA All-America Honorable Mention team after a stellar junior campaign last season. He was also tabbed as a First Team All-Conference pick as both a pitcher and at the third base position, while also being recognized as the Heart Pitcher of the Year.
From the bump, Schwellenbach posted an average of 13.19 strikeouts per game and finished the 2019 campaign with a perfect 8-0 record. He wrapped up the season with an ERA of 2.47 and totaled 107 strikeouts through 73 innings, also posting an impressive season-high of 17 strikeouts against Benedictine in April.
At the plate, Schwellenbach had a .290 batting average, tallying 9 homeruns and 32 RBIs on the season. He also finished in the field with a .907 fielding percentage on 75 chances.
Central Methodist baseball is set to open the 2020 season with a trip to San Antonio on January 31st.
