Eagles Fall in OLLU Doubleheader

Eagles Fall in OLLU Doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The No. 20-ranked Central Methodist University dropped two games on the road at Our Lady of the Lakes on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE (L 6-1)

Despite five early strikeouts from Mason Schwellenbach (SR/Saginaw, Mich.), the Saints were able to get on board early after bringing a run home in the second inning.

The bat of Adrian Martinez (JR/Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) tied the game in the fourth after an RBI double to right scored Z Westley (SR/Midland, Mich.) from third.

OLLU was able to retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth after scoring one runner before a four run showing the bottom of the fifth gave the Saints a 6-1 advantage, which they held through the final two frames.

*Additional information on game one will be added to this release once final game stats are made available.

GAME TWO (L 5-3)

Central jumped on the board first after Sergio Macias (SR/Laredo, Tex.) knocked a shot over the centerfield wall on an 0-2 count in the top of the second, but the lead didn't last for long. The Saints were able to rattle off five runs in the bottom of the second to secure a four run advantage.

Teams remained scoreless through the next four innings until a two-run homer from Martinez sparked a comeback in the final frame. The Eagles were able to place runners on second and third to tie the contest, but a ground out to the pitcher's mound on the final at bat left both runners stranded.

Blakeney Kearbey (SO) surrendered the loss after allowing three runs on three hits through 1.1 innings tossed. Dylan Brister (JR/Elyria, Ohio), Manny Martinez (SR/Toa Alta, Puerto Rico), and Beau Atkins (JR/Riverton, Ill.) each saw time on the bump until Alex Moore (SR/Santee, Calif.) was called up to close out the contest.

UP NEXT:

Central will return to the field on Saturday, February 8th, for a neutral game against No. 7 Bellevue University. The game, which will be played in Oklahoma City, is set to begin at 12:30 PM.
