No. 10 CMU completes series sweep over (RV) Our Lady of the Lake Saturday afternoon

No. 10 CMU completes series sweep over (RV) Our Lady of the Lake Saturday afternoon

San Antonio, Texas - The No. 10 Central Methodist baseball team continued its strong offensive start at the plate, earning two more convincing wins over (RV) Our Lady of the Lake by scores of 11-0 and 20-8 Saturday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.

With the pair of wins Saturday, CMU completes the series sweep over the Saints, improving its overall record to 4-0.

In the third game of the series, the Eagles scored at least one run in each of the first six innings, including four in the sixth to earn a double-digit win. The CMU bats collected 12 hits, eight of which went for extra bases.

Senior Sergio Macias had an excellent day at the plate, batting a perfect four-for-four with a double, two home runs, and three RBI. Kenny Otero collected two hits including a triple and home run.

Mason Schwellenbach, Logan McDonald, and Deshawn Cole all collected at least one hit, while Cole recorded two RBI.

Schwellenbach got the start on the bump for game three, throwing five complete innings and giving up only three hits, one walk, and striking out five batters in the win.

Beau Atkins and Luke Gray each pitched an inning, giving up no hits and retiring the side in order to preserve the shut out.

The final game of the weekend was more of the same for CMU, as the bats continued the offensive push with seven runs in the opening inning. Despite Our Lady of the Lake adding four runs in the bottom half of the first, the Eagles scored five runs in the second and seven in the fourth to take a commanding 19-5 lead.

Central added their final run of the weekend in the sixth off an RBI double from Adrian Martinez to score Haring from second base. Overall the Eagles strung together 20 hits in seven innings of work at the plate.

Haring led the offense, batting four-of-five with five runs scored, three doubles, and two RBI. Victor Grant finished the day batting a perfect three-for-three including a double and five RBI. Cole, Otero, Schwellenbach, Martinez, and Max McCay all recorded two or more hits, as Martinez and McCay also collected their first home runs of the 2021 season.

The duo of Devon Garcia and Isaiah Davis each swiped a base. As a team, the Eagles drew seven walks, as Macias led all batters with three.

Elvin Ramos earned the win for Central, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up one earned run on three hits. He completed his time on the mound with a game-high five strikeouts. Dylan Brister also tossed two complete innings, striking out four batters.

Central continues its strong non-conference schedule with a trip to Oklahoma City, Okla., where they will face (RV) Bellevue and No. 16 Oklahoma City the weekend of Feb. 13.
