Kansas City, Mo. - After a successfull weekend against numerous nationally ranked opponents, the Central Methodist baseball program earned a pair of Heart Weekly honors, as senior infielder Sergio Macias earned Heart Baseball Player of the Week honors, while teammate Kenny Otero was named the Heart Pitcher of the Week.
Macias was instrumental in Central's two big wins over No. 2 nationally ranked USAO and No. 11 IUSE Sunday night. He finished the day batting .625 with five hits including a double, and two home runs. He also drove in six RBI and struck out the final three batters to earn the save in Central's 5-4 win over USAO.
In the final game of the Shreveport tournament on Monday, the Laredo, Texas native collected two hits in three at-bats including an RBI in Central's narrow 7-6 loss to No. 6 LSU-Shreveport.
Otero got the start on the bump against No. 2 USAO Sunday, throwing five innings and giving up only one earned run while striking out nine batters. He also picked up two hits and two RBI in the upset win over the Drovers.
The Eagles are set to host the CMU series this Friday-Sunday, Feb. 26-28, featuring Olivet Nazarene, William Woods, and Bellevue. The games will take place at Versallies High School in Versallies, Mo.
