Springfield, Mo. - The No. 10 Central Methodist Baseball team won its third straight game against Evangel this weekend, defeating the Crusaders by a score of 9-1 Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.
With the win, Central improves to 16-2 and a perfect 3-0 in the conference, while Evangel drops to 7-8 and 0-3 in the Heart. The final game of the series was postponed due to weather.
The offense opened the game with four runs on five hits in the first inning. Sergio Macias recorded a sac fly to score Kenny Otero, while Logan McDonald drove in two RBI on a single to left field. Jeff Vance drove in McDonald with an RBI single to conclude the inning.
Mason Schwellenbach added the fifth run of the game on an RBI single to score Macias in the next inning, and Central scored one run in each of the final four frames to earn the 9-1 victory.
Otero, Logan Haring, Macias, Vance, Grant Victor, and Devon Garcia each collected two hits, while Macias led the offense with three RBI. Garcia also drew two walks.
As a team, CMU collected 15 hits compared to just six for Evangel.
Schwellenbach got the start on the bump, throwing five complete innings and giving up only one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts. The senior is now a perfect 5-0 to open up the 2021 campaign.
Nino Puckett and Elvin Ramos each pitched an inning, as Ramos collected two strikeouts in the seventh.
The Eagles will make the short trip over to Columbia, Mo. to face Columbia College Tuesday, March 16 for a single nine inning game beginning at 6:00 p.m.
