Fayette, Mo. – The No. 5 Central Methodist baseball team split the final two games of the four game series against (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene, falling in the first game 6-5 before taking the finale 10-4 Monday afternoon in Fayette, Mo.
The Eagles push their record to 19-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while the Pioneers are now 13-14 overall and 3-4 in conference action.
In game one, the Eagles were fast to get on the scoreboard after Kenny Otero doubled to center field scoring Deshawn Cole from first. The Pioneers grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second with a three-run home run, and then added another on a solo homerun in the bottom of the third. Grant Victor scored for the Eagles in the top of the fourth, trimming the lead Pioneers lead to 4-3.
MidAmerica scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead to 6-3. Logan McDonald scored the Eagles' fourth run after Devon Garcia singled to left, and on the next at bat Deshawn Cole also singled to left to score Raul Cosme. MNU held on in the final half inning to just edge CMU, 6-5
Cole and Garcia went a perfect three-for-three in the game, as Cole collected one RBI while Cole drove in two. Victor had two hits and one run scored in three at bats.
Mason Schwellenbach pitched four innings, giving up seven hits and six runs with six strikeouts. Tyler Vicars pitched the last two innings as he allowed one hit and struck out two batters.
In game two, both teams remained scoreless in the first couple of innings until a solo homerun gave MNU the 1-0 lead. The Eagles answered back with eight runs on the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a solo home run by Grant Victor and a two-run home run by Garcia. The Pioneers came back with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth but a solo home run by Haring and a run by McDonald in the top of the sixth and seventh respectively solidified CMU's win by a score of 10-4.
Garcia, Haring and Victor finished the game with one home run each. Max McCay hit a perfect three-for-three with one RBI and one run scored. Victor and Haring went two-for-three on the game. Garcia and McDonald had two RBI a piece.
Dylan Brister pitched 4.1 innings allowing two hits and striking out five batters to earn the win. Elvin Ramos and Beau Atkins each pitched an inning striking out one batter each.
The Eagles will be back at Estes Field Saturday, March 27 for a doubleheader against Heart newcomer Park University at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
