Central takes three of four from Benedictine in weekend series

Central takes three of four from Benedictine in weekend series

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 4 Central Methodist baseball team claimed three of four victories over (RV) Benedictine College this past weekend at Estes Field.

With the series win, Central improves to 34-5 and 20-3 in the Heart. The Ravens fall to 28-11 and 14-9 in conference action.

Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh of game one, Deshawn Cole led off and reached base on a walk and would eventually score on a wild throw from the second basemen to secure a 4-3 victory for the Eagles. Cole led the offense with a two run home run, while Kenny Otero batted two-for-three with an RBI.

Sergio Macias secured the late inning victory, pitching the seventh and giving up one hit and recording one strikeout.

CMU's offense was more potent in the second game of the day, as the Eagles came away with an 8-2 victory. CMU scored runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to secure a six run victory.

Mason Schwellenbach picked up three RBI on a bases clearing double, while Otero recorded a solo home run and Grant Victor batted two-for-four with two RBI. Schwellenbach pitched six innings to pick up the win, giving up only two earned runs on five hits along with eight strikeouts.

After just being edged in game three by a score of 5-4, the Eagles ended the series on a high-note with a 9-4 win in the finale. Central led from start to finish, scoring three runs in the third and six innings. Overall, the offense finished the game with nine hits compared to just one for Benedictine.

Logan Haring collected three RBI including a two run home run in the sixth inning, his 15th of the season. Dylan Brister picked up the win, tossing 3.2 innings and striking out two batters.

The Eagles will host Baker University for a four game series beginning on Saturday, April 24 with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
