Sterlington, La. - No. 14 Central baseball fell to No. 4 LSU-Shreveport in extra innings, 6-5, in their opening game of the Cajun Collision Thursday night in Sterlington, La.
The Eagles fall to 4-1 on the early season, while the Pilots improve to 4-2.
Central held a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning. However, LSU-Shreveport plated two runs in the frame to tie the game at 5-5.
The Eagles were unable to answer in the top of the eighth and the score remained deadlocked at 5-5. LSU-Shreveport scored the game winning run in the bottom half of the frame on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Bobby Nichols batted two-for-two which included a double and a pair of walks. Tanner Sears recorded a two-RBI double back up in the middle in the fourth.
Sebastian Escobar got the start on the bump, tossing 5.2 innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits. He also struck out seven batters.
Justin Guzman and Larry Riddle Jr. also saw action on the mound, throwing in relief through the final innings of play.
Central returns to action on day two of the Cajun Collision when they face Tabor Friday, Feb. 10 at 11:00 a.m. The Eagles will cap the day with a matchup against (RV) LSU-Alexandria at 2:30 p.m.
