Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Baseball team completed a four-game sweep over Heart foe Baker University this weekend at Estes Field.
The Eagles improve their overall record to 18-10 and 8-2 in the conference. Baker falls to 15-13 and 7-5 in Heart action.
Game 1: CMU 12 - Baker 2
The Eagles' bats started out the series hot, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits in the opener. Jeremy Conforti had a monster game, batting two-for-three with seven total RBI. He recorded a bases clearing double in the third, followed by a grand slam in his next at bat in the fourth.
Tanner Sears plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to help push Central's lead to double-digits.
On the bump, Clayton Burke tossed five complete innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He also struck out six batters. Justin Guzman threw the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters.
Game 2: CMU 8 - Baker 5
Central plated their first run of game two off the bat of West in the second inning. Leading 1-0 in the fourth, the Eagles added three more runs highlighted by a two-run home run from Tommaso Giarola.
Robbie Merced and Sears both homered in the fifth inning, making the score 7-0. Baker plated one run in the sixth, before Joey Fitzgerald Jr. homered to right in the bottom half of the frame. Despite BU scoring four runs in the seventh, CMU held on for the 8-5 victory.
Altogether, Central's offense produced eight runs on 10 hits, which included five home runs.
Alfred Ulloa got the start on the bump, earning his first win of the year after throwing four scoreless innings and giving up just three hits. Alexander Billo came in relief before Larry Riddle Jr. earned his second save of the year by retiring the final two batters.
Game 3: CMU 5 - Baker 1
West was the key piece in Central's third win of the series Sunday afternoon, as the ace pitched a complete game. He allowed just one earned run on five hits and struck out 10 batters.
Sears and Weatherford both collected doubles while Kaden Doan recorded a stolen base. Fitzgerald Jr. crossed the plate twice.
Overall, Central's offense scored five runs on six hits, while Baker committed three errors to aid in the scoring efforts for the Eagles.
Game 4: CMU 7 - Baker 1
The finale was a pitcher's duel through the first three complete innings. The first run came on a base loaded ground out which scored Bobby Nichols from third.
The Eagles broke the game open in the fourth with six runs on six hits, including four straight singles. Sears had another solid outing at the dish, batting three-for-four with a double. Weatherford and Merced each collected two hits in three trips to the plate.
Marcus Pritchard earned his third win of the year, throwing six complete innings and allowing no earned runs on three hits. He struck out eight total batters on the afternoon.
Central remains at home to host Benedictine College for a four-game weekend series beginning Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m.
