Fayette, Mo. - Central Methodist University Head Baseball Coach Nate Breland announced the elevation of Jordan Schwellenbach to Head Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator of the CMU Baseball program.
Schwellenbach will also continue to serve in his role as Pitching Coach for the team, a role he has held for the past six seasons.
"Coach Schwellenbach has been a vital piece of our program over the last six years," stated Coach Breland. "He has catapulted our pitching staff into one of the top staffs in the NAIA year in and year out. Jordan has been a part of six national tournament runs and has sent several arms on to the next level. I am beyond excited to promote him from a part time pitching coach position to my head assistant. I look forward to seeing what he is capable of doing with our program moving forward."
During his six seasons in Fayette, Schwellenbach has built one of the top pitching staffs in the country, which includes six NAIA All-Americans, four Heart Pitchers of the Year, and five players that went on to play professionally.
In 2019, Peyton Long was selected in the 30th round of the MLB draft by the Milwakee Brewers. In addition, 2022 NAIA All-American Nick Merkel is currently pitching for the Brewers in High-A Ball.
During Schwellenbach's run with the Eagles, Central has boasted a 209-79 record, good for a 73-percent winning percentage.
The Eagles' best season in program history came in 2021, when they swept both the Heart Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Central won its opening round and punched their ticket to the NAIA World Series that same year, where they finished as the National Runner Up.
That same season, Schwellenbach's pitching staff set program records in earned run average (3.44) and strikeouts (473).
Schwellenbach will resume his new duties immediately.
