Shawnee, Kan. - The Central Methodist Baseball program fell in its final two games of its conference opening series against MNU Saturday afternoon.
Central fell in game one, 10-1, before dropping game two 9-5. CMU now stands and 7-7 and 1-3 in the Heart of America, while MNU improves to 7-4 and 3-1 in conference action.
Game 3: No. 25 MNU 10 - No. 14 CMU 1
Marcos Lopez got the nod on the mound for CMU in game three, making quick work of the Pioneers in the first inning. However, MidAmerica would get the better of him in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Eagles would score one to tie the game, as Zeb Wede singled to left field to bring in David Soriano.
The Pioneers respondend immediately in the bottom half to take 3-1 lead. From that point on it was all MNU offensively.
MidAmerica scored five unanswered runs in the fifth inning followed by three more in the sixth to take game three of the series, 10-1.
Lopez pitched four innings, allowing three runs on five base hits. The Puerto Rico native issued three walks and recorded five strikeouts in the loss.
Justin Stedry came in relief, pitching one inning.
Offensively, the Eagles were lead by Kyle Williams who went two-for-three in the first game of the doubleheader.
Game 4: No. 25 MNU 9 - No. 14 CMU 5
In the finale, the Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first two innings, with the first run coming with two outs in the top of the first.
Tanner Sears singled with two away and Aaron Guess Jr., who came in to pinch run, quickly advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Two batters later the bases were loaded for the Eagles following back-to-back walks.
Gavin Whitehurst drew the third straight walk of the inning, receiving credit for an RBI as Guess Jr. came in to score.
Central would add on to their lead in the top of the second, as Williams doubled to left field to bring home two more followed by a sacrifice fly from Sears.
However, MNU continued to battle, plating two runs in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.
The Eagles would tie the game in the next half inning courtesy of a throwing error by the Pioneers' shortstop.
MidAmerica would then score a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to put the game away and take the weekend series, 3-1.
Central collected five runs on five hits and took advantage of two defensive miscues from MNU. Whitehurst was the only Eagle to record a multi-hit game, going two-for-two with an RBI and a walk.
CMU will make its long awaited home debut against Baker University for a weekend series beginning Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Estes Field.
