Fayette, Mo. - The No. 23 Central Methodist Baseball program closed their regular season slate with a four game sweep over Peru State this past weekend at Estes Field.
Central finishes regular season action with a 31-13 overall record and a 25-7 mark in the Heart of America.
At the conclusion of game four, the program recognized its 2025 senior class which included; Tanner Sears, Nick Tampa, David Soriano, Darius Freeman, Alfred Ulloa, Landon Winingham, Ryan Malzahn, Foster Seitz, Dominick Proctor, Kyle Williams, Brennan Theisman, Peyton Becker, Valentin Cerna Jr. and Carlos Negron.
Game 1: CMU 1 - PSC 0
Both teams were locked in a pitching duel all game long. Central's starter, Foster Seitz, was nothing short of spectacular, throwing a complete game shutout to lead the Eagles to the 1-0 victory.
The lone run of the ballgame came in the bottom of the sixth when Kyle Williams left the yard to lead off the inning.
After that, the Bobcats were able to get back on track and retire the next three batters to close out the inning.
Peru State had three outs to work with heading into the seventh, but Seitz closed the door on them in one-two-three fashion completing his two-hit shutout.
The Eagles posted four hits in the victory. Tanner Sears was the only player with a multi-hit game for either team.
Game 2: CMU 8 - PSC 1
The Eagles pushed across one run in the second followed by one more in the third to take an early 2-0 lead.
Peru State responded with one of their own in the fourth, but Central regained the two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth off a Ryan Malzahn solo home run.
The bats for CMU exploded in the fifth, as they put up five runs with Aaron Guess Jr., Valentin Cerna Jr., Peyton Becker, Williams and Zeb Wede all coming around to score to make it an 8-1 Eagles' lead.
Central's starter, Cesar Morales, had a great outing, giving up just two hits and one run in his six innings of work. The junior allowed four free passes but struck out nine in the victory,
Landon Winingham came in his relief in the seventh, striking out three to preserve the seven-run victory.
Cerna Jr., Malzahn, and Sears all had mult-hit games. Both Sears and Gavin Whitehurst drove in two-RBI.
Game 3: CMU 15 - PSC 0
The Eagles had a slugfest in Saturday's first game, while the pitching was lights out for a third-straight contest.
After two innings of play, the hosts held a 3-0 lead, and added four more in the fourth.
Valentin Cerna Jr. singled to right to bring home Zeb Wede followed by a Tanner Sears's two-RBI single right back up the middle to score Cerna Jr. and Soriano.
Ryan Malzahn capped the inning off with a sacrifice fly to center field, giving CMU a 7-0 lead.
Central manufactured three more runs the following inning headlined by another two-RBI at bat from Sears.
The offense would continue to cruise in all cylinders as they extended their lead to 15-0 in the sixth inning, winning by that scoreline.
Nicholas Neighbours threw Central's second complete game shutout of the series. The right-hander struck out four while surrendering just four hits and one walk.
Sears had a three-hit, four RBI game in his four plate appearances, while Williams brought home three runs and earned himself two free passes.
Game 4: CMU 12 - PSC 5
The Bobcats had their first lead of the series after putting up a two spot in the opening frame.
CMU made sure that advantage didn't last long, as they responded with five runs in the bottom half to take a 5-2 lead.
Williams picked up his second home run of the weekend in the inning.
In the third, Whitehurst recorded a two-RBI single while Negron did the same in the fourth to put Central up 9-2
The Eagles kept adding to their tally with two runs in the fifth after the Bobcats blasted a solo home run in the top of the inning.
Peru State headed into the seventh trailing Central 12-3.
PSC got two more runs to their credit following a pair of RBI singles. Sears finished his relief appearance by securing a four-game sweep over the visitors.
Winingham got the start on the mound for the Eagles. The right-hander gave up two runs on three hits, surrendered three walks, and struck out four.
Vince Ray was the winning pitcher after two solid innings that included a four-strikeout effort.
Alfred Ulloa and Sears came in relief towards the backend of the ballgame with each recording three outs in the sixth and seventh innings respectively.
