Eagles' Baseball Opens Postseason Run with Win over Wildcats

Eagles' Baseball Opens Postseason Run with Win over Wildcats

Ozark, Mo. - The Central Methodist Baseball program began postseason play with an 18-8 victory over Baker University in their opening game of the Heart of America Conference Tournament Thursday night in Ozark, Mo.

Central, who entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, swept the No. 6 Wildcats in the regular season.

CMU's offensed mirrored what is has done all season long, scoring 18 runs on 19 hits which included seven hits for extra bases.

Ryan Malzahn was a bright spot for the Eagles, as the junior outfielder batted two-for-four with a pair of home runs, four RBI, two runs scored, and a walk.

Dominick Proctor went a perfect four-for-four at the plate with two doubles and four runners driven in while crossing the plate twice.

David Soriano, Carlos Negron, and Valentin Cerna Jr. all tallied three hits while each picked up two RBI on the day.

Foster Seitz got the start on the bump, tossing five complete innings and allowing just three earned runs on five hits with two walks. He earned his 10th win of the year as a result.

Vince Ray, Alfred Ulloa and Nicholas Neighbours each saw action on the bump in the later innings of the game to preserve the win.

Central is set to play No. 2 seeded MidAmerica Nazarene University in their second game of the tournament Friday, May 2 at 8:30 p.m.

CMU will be looking to enact some revenge, as MNU won three-of-four games played in the regular season back in early March.
