CMU Spirit Squad Finishes 3rd at HAAC Championships

The Central Methodist University spirit squad place in the top three in three events to earn a third-place finish overall at the Heart of America Athletic Conference spirit squad championships Saturday in Fayette.

CMU placed third overall with 421 points, improving on the team's fifth-place finish at the 2009 HAAC championships. Lindenwood University won the HAAC championship with 579 points, while Avila University finished as the runner-up with 550 points. Benedictine College and Missouri Valley College tied for fourth behind CMU with 403 points each.

Central Methodist finished as the runner-up in the small dance competition, behind Lindenwood. CMU got a pair of third-place finishes in hip-hop dance, and all-girl cheer. Lindenwood and Avila placed ahead of CMU in both of those categories. Avila edged out CMU by just two points for the runner-up spot in hip-hop dance. CMU also competed in the co-ed cheer and mascot categories.
