BALDWIN CITY, Kan. ---- The Central Methodist coed competitive cheer team earned a second place finish to open the 2018 season at the Baker Classic on the campus of Baker University, Sunday afternoon.

Finishing with a final score of 71.68, the Eagles took home second place out of the nine teams who made an appearance. The Eagles finished ahead of fellow Heart of America Athletic Conference members MidAmerica Nazarene (5th), Benedictine (6th), Baker (8th) and Graceland (9th).

Missouri Valley won the competition with a score of 84.08. However, the Eagles trailed the Vikings by less than half a point in the tumbling and jumping totals.

Central Methodist scored a 9.5 from all three judges for its standing tumbling, which included a perfect five from the trio in execution, and an 8.5 for the running tumbling. Out of 30 possible points in the chategory, the Eagles earned an impressive 25.5 total.

The Eagles also earned an eight out of ten from the judges for showmanship and general impressions with an average of just above seven for overall difficulty and execution.

The team will return to action on Saturday, February 3, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete on the campus of Grand View University.
