KANSAS CITY Melvin Tillman of Central Methodist has been named the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Tillman was selected based on his performances from Feb. 10-16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.
Tillman, a 6'0 senior guard, moved into 15th place on the Eagles' career scoring charts with two 30-point efforts last week. He netted a career-high 34 points on 13-of-19 (.684) shooting and added seven rebounds and five assists in the 81-78 win over then-No. 10 Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Feb. 13. On Feb. 15, he finished with 32 points, doing much of his damage at the charity stripe (13-of-18), in the 82-70 win against Avila (Mo.).
Overall, the native of Richmond, Ind., averaged 33.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and shot 63.6 percent (21-of-33) from the field last week.
In Division I statistical rankings, Tillman ranks 20th in assists (4.5) and 21st in scoring (19.6).
