Thirkield has been a two-year student-athlete for North Central Missouri College after starring for four seasons at Lafayette County (Mo.) High School.�
"I'm really excited to play for Central Methodist," Thirkield said. "This is a great fit for me. I can't wait for next season to help CMU to the best of my ability and to make them a better program."
Sherman believes that the addition of Thirkield to a 20-win team from last season could vault the Eagles back into the National Championship for the first time in six seasons.
"Tyrell is a big-time get for our program," Sherman said. "He was one of the most decorated high school players a few years ago. Tyrell is a special player, and his statistics and talents have shown early. He is an explosive player, one of the finest lock-down defenders and can score, drive, and has very good handles."
Thirkield averaged 15.4 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore for North Central Missouri, leading the squad to a 22-7 record. The Higginsville, Mo., native totaled 942 points, 252 assists and 191 rebounds in 58 games over two seasons. He was an All-NJCAA Region 16 first team selection as a freshman and sophomore.
Thirkield totaled 1,855 points in four seasons at Lafayette County. As a senior, the two-time first team All-State member averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game.
Central Methodist finished last season 20-12 overall and 9-9 in the HAAC.
