KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced Monday that 60 Division I Men's Basketball student-athletes have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Fellow Heart of America Athletic Conference member;�Grand View (Iowa), leads all institutions with four individuals on the list.
Central Methodist University had two individuals earn a spot on the list, senior guard John Hall (Eldon, Mo.), and senior forward Mitchell Wendling (Athens, Ill.).
"I couldn't be more thrilled for John (Hall) to receive this distinct honor of being named to the NAIA Scholar Athlete team," said CMU head coach Jeff Sherman. "John is the hardest working person in our program, both on and off the court.�His commitment and dedication over the past four years exemplifies the ideal student athlete on our campus.� John has been a leader, captain and role model �and I couldn't be more proud."
Sherman added, "I am also proud of Mitch Wendling's accomplishments within our CMU program the past couple of seasons.�He has not only excelled on the basketball court, but has now received the highest most prestigious honor within the NAIA of Scholar Athlete.� Mitch is very organized, disciplined and detailed in his academic pursuit. This honor exemplifies his passion for learning and priorities for preparing for life after college."
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.�
