FAYETTE, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's basketball team bolstered their backcourt talent in the immediate future when head coach Jeff Sherman announced the signing of 2016 NJCAA D2 All-American Terrance Bush, Jr. this week to start the 2017-18 signing class.
Bush a 6-2, guard from Des Moines, Iowa, graduated from Des Moines North High School in 2014 and has continued to make a name for himself the next two seasons while playing at North Central Missouri College.
He was the eighth-best scorer in the nation as a sophomore, averaging 21.8 points per game, while pulling down 7.8 rebounds and handing out 3.1 assists per game. He shot 37% from three-point territory and 80% from the line.
Those numbers not only earned him his second consecutive First-Team All-Region honors, but Second Team All-American recognition. He was the D2 Region 16 Player of the Year and finished as the all-time leading scorer in North Central Missouri history, pouring in 1,070 points.
"First, this is a big day for a couple of reason," said CMU's Jeff Sherman. "We signed one of the top scoring guards in Terrance Bush. The other is signing Terrance from North Central Missouri College, which is under the direction of Jeremy Esry, who is a former player and assistant coach of mine.
"To top this, CMU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Matt Sherman and Jeremy Esry were teammates on the 2008-09 Sweet Sixteen National Tournament team at Central. It is just a nice occasion when we have family included in our big events and this one is a great way to start our signing period for 2017-18."
As a freshman, Bush averaged 15.7 points a game, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, hit 40% from behind the three-point arc and dropped in 77% of his free throws. He continued to work on his game and improved those numbers as a sophomore.
"We're excited to include Terrance to our CMU family," Sherman continued. "His athletic accomplishments and accolades at North Central Missouri College are most impressive. We are losing a two-time All-American in Ron Lee (SR/Oak Park, Calif.), which led our conference in scoring this past season.
"I believe we not only have replaced Ron's talents in our program, but have added an impressive gentleman to our campus. I just love Terrance's passion to improve and get better, but more importantly, to help his team win.
"The CMU basketball program inherited a true champion and winner. I believe Central Methodist University has inherited a bright, hardworking and dedicated young man that will represent this university with high character and morals with a contagious wonderful personality.
"This is another great day to be an Eagle."
