ATCHISON, Kan. ---- The No. 12 nationally ranked Central Methodist men's basketball team edged out a 67-63 road victory over Benedictine College Thursday night.
NOTES
• Central Methodist improved to 22-3 (11-3) on the year.
• Benedictine fell to 12-13 (6-8).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Brian Egejuru led the way for the Eagles with 13 points. He added four assists and a steal.
• Isaiah Thurmond also finished in double digits with 12.
• Bo Burkhart tallied eight points with three steals and two assists. Frankie Burden additionally finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.
• Colby Nickels paced the Ravens with 20 points, four rebounds, three blocks and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Five minutes into the game, Benedictine held a three-point lead, 9-6, after a three from Nickels.
• A three from Bush finished an 8-1 run to put Central Methodist ahead by four, 14-10 at the ten minute mark.
• Central Methodist maintained the lead, until a jumper from Hatterle gave Benedictine a 28-27 lead with four minutes on the clock.
• The lead changed back and forth in the final minutes, however a pair of free-throws from Bush just before the half tied the game at 33.
• Central Methodist jumped out to an eight-point lead, 47-39, after a 14-4 run was finished with a three from Egejuru six minutes into the second half.
• Central Methodist maintained the lead, and a three from Burkhart with eight minutes remaining in the game put the Eagles ahead by 13, 55-42.
• Benedictine responded with a 12-2 run to cut the lead to three, 57-54, after a jumper from Metoyer landed with four minutes on the clock.
• Heading into the final minute of play, the Eagles led by four, 62-58. A three from O'Connor with 25 seconds on the clock brought the game to within one, however the Eagles finished 5-of-6 at the free throw line in the final 20 seconds to preserve the 67-63 road victory over Benedictine.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Central Methodist completed 21-of-51 (41.2%) shots from the field, 8-of-19 (42.1%) from behind the arc and finished 17-of-20 (85%) from the charity stripe.
• The Ravens converted on 22-of-55 (40%) from the field, 7-of-24 (29.2%) from behind the arc and 12-of-17 (70.6%) from the line.
• The Ravens held a 37-29 advantage on the boards over the Eagles.
• The Eagles led in bench points, 19-17.
• The Eagles led in second chance points, 16-12, as well.
