FAYETTE, Mo. – It wasn't always pretty, but the (RV) Central Methodist University men's basketball team held on to defeat Mount Mercy in an 86-79 decision, marking its third win in a row.
The Eagles (12-5, 7-4 Heart) led for the entire first half, thanks to a 14-for-30 performance from the field and four three-pointers from Terrance Bush (SR/Des Moines, Iowa). The second half was a grind, as the Mustangs put together a comeback run, fighting back from as many as 10 points down to take a one-point lead with just under a minute to go.
A pair of free throws from Josh Robinson (JR/Normal, Ill.), a transition bucket from Christian Soderholm (JR/Peru, Ill.), and four good tosses from Bush sealed the win in the final sixty seconds.
Four CMU athletes finished the contest in double figures, led by Bush who posted 24 points while posting a season-high of six threes on the night. Robinson knocked in 12 points after going a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Soderholm and Isaiah Thurmond (SR/Alton, Ill.) tallied 10 points each.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 16, with a trip to Baker University. Game time is set for 7:30 pm in Baldwin City, Kan.
