FAYETTE, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's basketball team couldn't withstand a late William Penn rally, falling 75-66 to the No. 16 Statesmen.
The Eagles (13-12, 8-11 Heart) had an eight-point advantage with 11 minutes remaining in the second half, but a 33-16 run by the Statesmen sealed the CMU loss. Central committed less turnovers and shot an efficient 15-for-19 from the free throw line, but lost the rebounding battle 36-27.
Isaiah Thurmond (SR/Alton, Ill.) and Cameron Tutt (SR/Owensboro, Ky.) led the team in scoring with 16 points each. Tutt also recorded his fifth double-double of the season after pulling down 11 rebounds. Josh Robinson (JR/Normal, Ill.) rounded out the top scorers with 10 points after going a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
Central Methodist returns to action on Saturday with a road trip to Missouri Valley College. Game time is set for 4 pm in Marshall, Mo.
