Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's basketball team collected its first win of the 2020 season, defeating Bacone College, 88-68 Friday night in Puckett Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 1-2 overall, while the Warriors fall to 1-5 on the season.
CMU jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first four minutes of the first half, leading by as many as 14 points. However, Bacone would battle back in the later stages of the first half, outscoring the Eagles 26-5 in the closing minutes, capped by a three-point basket as time expired to take a 46-45 lead into the locker room.
Both teams went back and forth heading into the second half before the Eagles grabbed the lead for good at the 11:46 mark. Holding a 62-60 advantage, Central closed the game on a 26-8 scoring running, earning a convincing 20-point victory.
Senior guard Kyle McDermed scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field, highlighted by five three-point baskets. Fode Camara was the only other Eagle to reach double-figures, recording 16 points in 32 minutes. Camara was also extremely efficient from the field, shooting eight-of-11 for 72.7-percent.
Chandler Bevans nearly cracked double figures, scoring nine points with 10 rebounds and four assists. Austin Fisher added eight points with six rebounds and three assists. Jayden McGrew and Chris Orozco collected seven points apiece. McGrew also dished out a game-high seven assists and added a steal.
As a team, CMU shot 49.3-percent from the field compared to 39.1-percent for the Warriors. Central won the battle of the boards, grabbing 58 rebounds to just 27 for Bacone.
The Eagles will next travel to Peru State College to face the Bobcats on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Peru, Neb for their conference opener.
