Olathe, Kan. - Trailing by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Central Methodist men's basketball team mounted a second-half comeback to edge MNU, 74-69 Saturday afternoon in Olathe, Kan.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-2 and 2-0 in conference action. MidAmerica Nazarene falls to 3-2 and 0-2 in Heart play. This also marks CMU's third-straight victory.
CMU led for the majority of the opening 10 minutes before the Pioneers went on a 26-15 scoring run to close the first half with a 39-28 lead. MNU led by as many as 14 points in the second half before Central began to chip away at the lead, trimming it to single digits.
The Eagles tied the game at 64-64 after a made basket from junior forward Chandler Bevans with 3:01 remaining. The final three minutes featured a 10-5 scoring run for CMU, ultimately coming away with the six-point comeback victory.
Bevans once again led the Eagle offense with 19 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the field including one three-point basket. Bevans also pulled down seven rebounds and added an assist and a steal.
Amir Pettiford and Austin Fisher each recorded 10 points apiece, followed by Kyle McDermed and Fode Camara who each added eight. Camara also finished with a game-high nine rebounds, nearly earning a double-double.
The Eagles converted on seven-of-17 three point attempts, good for 41.2-percent. MNU finished the evening with seven three-point baskets on 30 attempts. CMU won the battle of the boards, grabbing 38 rebounds compared to just 28 for MidAmerica Nazarene. 14 of the Eagles' rebounds came on the offensive glass.
CMU continues conference action with a road matchup against Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
