Eagles win fourth-straight with victory at Missouri Valley

Marshall, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game with a 77-69 victory over Missouri Valley College Tuesday night in Marshall, Mo.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 4-2 and 3-0 in conference action, while MVC falls to 2-4 and 1-2 in the Heart. It also marks the first time Central has opened up conference play 3-0 since the 2009-10 season when the Eagles finished the year with a 24-9 overall record and a 17-3 mark in the Heart.

The first half was evenly balanced as there were only two lead changes between the two sides. CMU led by as many as five points, while the Vikings stretched their lead to seven. However, Central would enter the halftime break with a 36-31 lead.

The Vikings tied the game twice in the second half and were able to take a one-point lead on three different occasions. But the Eagles responded almost instantly each time to regain momentum, and ultimately led by as many as nine points en-route to an eight-point victory.

Four different Eagles reached double figures led by Kyle McDermed, who scored 18 points on four-of-10 from beyond the arc and six-of-seven from the free-throw line. Chandler Bevans followed closely behind with 17 points, while Marcus Anthony and Austin Fisher added 15 and 11 points respectively. Bevans also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, good enough to earn his second double-double of the year.

Both teams were nearly identical from the three-point line, as Central converted on 33.3-percent of its attempts, compared to 31.3-percent for Missouri Valley College. CMU once again won the battle of the boards, grabbing 45 rebounds while MVC collected 40. Every member of the Eagles grabbed at least one rebound.

The defense held MVC to 39.7-percent shooting from the floor and forced 17 Viking turnovers on six steals. Fode Camara led the defensive unit with three steals, followed by Anthony who collected two. Bevans also added a steal to his stat line.

Central returns home after the Thanksgiving break to host Benedictine College on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse. The Eagles and Ravens split last year's matchup, as each team won on their home floor.
