Parkville, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's basketball team fell to conference newcomer (RV) Park University by a score of 84-61 Saturday afternoon in Parkville, Mo.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to 5-5 and 3-3 in the Heart. Park improves to 2-3 overall and in conference competition.
Both teams remained balanced in the opening 10 minutes of game action, as neither team led by more than five points. However, the Pirates went on a 17-9 scoring run in the final 7:10 of the first half to take a 43-33 lead into the locker room.
Park's offense continued to roll in the second half, scoring 41 points and leading by as many as 25 en route to an 84-61 victory over the Eagles.
The duo of Fode Camara and Trent Lyles led the Central offense with 17 points apiece. Camara also pulled down a team high seven rebounds and collected two steals. Lyles reached double figures for the second time in 2020, shooting 70-percent from the field and 50-percent from the three-point line. In addition, the redshirt sophomore grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
Kyle McDermed was the final Eagle to score in double figures, collecting 10 points in 27 minutes of game action. Jayden McGrew dished out a game high four assists to lead all players.
Central made only eight trips to the charity stripe, knocking down six free throws for 75-percent. The Pirates won the battle of the boards, grabbing 40 rebounds compared to just 29 for the Eagles. Both teams were nearly identical in turnovers, as CMU committed 14, while the Pirates finished the afternoon with 13. Park featured four players in double figures, led by Cory Reeves, who scored a game high 20 points.
Ernest Myles III earned a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, and as a team the Pirates converted on 55-percent of their field goal attempts.
CMU returns to Fayette for a three-game homestand before the holiday break, beginning with Baker University Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
