Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to seven games with a thrilling 62-61 victory over Columbia College Thursday night in Puckett Field House.
Central keeps its record at a perfect 7-0, while the Cougars fall to 4-5.
A late three from the Cougars with under 10 seconds remaining saw the Eagles trail for the first-time since the opening 90 seconds of the game.
Coming out of a timeout with less than two seconds remaining, a foul by the Cougars put Jonathan Brown at the free throw line for a one-and-one and a chance to go back out in front. Brown converted on both free throws to give Central a 62-61 lead. Columbia College attempted a buzzer beater as time expired which fell short, as CMU collected the one-point win.
Brown led the offense with 23 points on eight-of-14 shooting from the field including three three-point baskets. Isaiah May was the only other Eagle to land in double figures with 13 points. He match Brown with three three-point baskets.
The offense finished the evening shooting from 41-percent from the floor and 43.8-percent from beyond the arc. Central won the battle of the boards, grabbing 43 rebounds compared to 39 for Columbia College. Trent Lyles led the Eagles with nine rebounds while Fode Camara added seven.
Central heads out on the road to face NCAA Division I member Brigham Young University Saturday, Nov. 20 at 8:00 p.m. (CST) in Provo, Utah.
