Fayette, Mo. - The (RV) Central Methodist men's basketball program suffered its second-straight loss, as the Eagles fell to the Evangel Valor 65-64 in their conference opener Wednesday night in Puckett Field House.
With the loss, Central now stands at 8-2 and 0-1 in the Heart, while the Valor improve to 7-2 and 1-0 in conference play.
The Eagles found themselves in a six point deficit at the halftime break, trailing 30-24. Central trimmed the Valor lead to one with five-straight points to open the second half on baskets from Isaiah May and Fode Camara.
Evangel would stretch their lead back out to double-digits not long after, going on a 10-2 scoring run in a two-minute span. The Eagles would repond with 11 straight points to take a slim 45-44 lead at the 10:56 mark of the second half.
Both sides remained within five points of eachother for the rest of the contest. Central held a two-point lead with 1:14 remaining in the game, before the Valor sank a three-point basket to take a 65-64 lead. Evangel's defense held CMU without a bucket on their next two possessions, including an attempted buzzer-beater as time expired to secure a one-point victory.
Tim Cameron and May finished the evening with 15 points each to lead the offense. Cameron also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to earn a double-double, along with four assists, four steals, and a block.
Camara was the third and final Eagle to reach double-figures with 12 points and 10 rebounds, joining Cameron in the double-double club.
Central controlled the battle of the boards with 43 rebounds compared to 29 for the Valor. The crucial stat of the evening was the free-throw line, as the Eagles only converted nine-of-17 from the charity stripe, while the Valor knocked down 10-of-14 attempts for 71.4-percent.
The Eagles next hit the road to face Park University Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4:00 p.m. in Parkville, Mo.
