Eagles receiving votes in latest NAIA National poll

Kansas City, Mo. - Winning three of their last four games the past two weeks, the Central Methodist men's basketball team is receiving votes in the sixth edition of the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll, announced by the national office this week.

Other Heart programs featured or mentioned in the Top 25 include No. 1 William Penn, and (RV) Evangel. Central currently holds an 18-9 overall record and a 9-7 mark in conference play. They sit in second place in the Heart South Division standings, two games back from Evangel for the top spot in the division.

Central is one of the top rebounding teams in the NAIA, as they rank No. 9 in rebounds/game (42.3), and No. 6 in both rebounding margin (10.3), and offensive rebounds/game (14.2).

Sophomore guard Jonathan Brown leads the Eagles' offense with 18 points/game, while Tim Cameron averages 12.1 points/game and Fode Camara 10.8 points/game.

CMU returns home to host Park University Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.

To view the poll methodology and the complete Top 25 poll, please see below.

Poll Methodology:

  • The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Continental Athletic Conference (Independents).
  • The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list.
  • The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on.
  • Teams that receive only one point on the ballot are not considered "receiving votes"
  • The frequency of polls occurs bi-weekly. This policy was approved by the National Administrative Council (NAC) beginning in the 2016-17 academic season. This change will allow raters the opportunity to consider a larger body of work in between rating periods.
