Central Rolls Past Friends in Season Opener; Matt Sherman Earns First Career Win

Olathe, Kan. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball program opened the 2022-23 season with a 107-88 victory over Friends University (Kan.) in the first game of the Heart/KCAC Classic Thursday night in Olathe, Kan.

The victory also marks the first career win for new Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt Sherman.

Four Eagles landed in double figures including three starters. Newcomer James Jordan dropped 26 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the floor to lead all scorers. He also converted on five-of-six three point baskets. Fellow newcomer Everett Stubblefield scored 19 points and added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Senior Isaiah May nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. He also recorded a team-leading four blocks.

Jaquan Morris scored 15 points off the bench while Quinan Rieves tallied nine.

Overall, 10 of 14 Eagles that saw the floor scored at least four points.

CMU finished the evening shooting 64.2-percent from the floor and a cool 50-percent from beyond the arc. Central won the battle of the boards, grabbing 36 rebounds compared to just 29 for the Falcons.

CMU will conlude the two-day tournament against No. 3 Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m.
