Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball Team bounced back with an 89-79 victory over the Mount Mercy Mustangs Saturday evening in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Central improves its overall record to 5-3 and 3-1 in the Heart. The Mustangs fall to 2-4 and 0-2 in conference play.
CMU jumped out to a 39-29 lead in the first half, shooting over 50-percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action. Central's shooters only improved with time in the second half, as the Eagles converted on 63-percent of their attempts from the floor.
Mount Mercy finished the evening shooting 43.3-percent from the field which included 13 three-point baskets. Mount Mercy managed to tie the game at 65-65 with just under seven minutes to go.
The Eagles would go on a 10 scoring run over the next three minutes to regain control, including three-point baskets from James Jordan and Trent Lyles. Mount Mercy would never get any closer than eight points the rest of the way, as Central would go on to earn the 10-point victory.
Jordan, the reigning Heart Player of the Week, led the offense with 21 points on eight-of-nine shooting from the floor. The duo of Everett Stubblefield and Jayden McGrew each chipped in 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for CMU.
Lyles added nine points and five rebounds in just 16 minutes off the bench, while Thomas Sowoolu added eight points. Charlie Bronakowski led the efforts on the glass with seven rebounds followed by Quinan Rieves with six.
CMU will conclude its three-game road swing with a matchup against No. 25 William Penn Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
