Hilo, Hawaii - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team opened day one of the Big Island Classic with an 82-71 victory over Valley City State (N.D.) Saturday afternoon on the big island of Hawaii.
With the win, Central improves to 7-4 overall and advances in the winner's bracket of the tournament.
Four different Eagles landed in double figures, including three in the starting five. Isaiah May led the Eagles' offense with 21 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the field, which included three three-point baskets. The senior from Belleville, Ill. also dished out three assists and grabbed two rebounds.
James Jordan also landed in double figures with 16 points on an even 50-percent shooting from the floor. Everett Stubblefield and Quinan Rieves rounded out the double digit scorers for Central with 15 and 12 points respectively. Rieves also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to earn a double-double.
The duo of Josh Noton and Thomas Sowoolu chipped in eight points apiece.
CMU dominated the glass, outrebounding the Vikings 45-27. Seven different Eagles grabbed at least two rebounds.
Altogether, Central shot 54.1-percent from the floor, 36.4-percent from three, and nearly 67-percent from the charity stripe.
Central will conclude the Big Island Classic against host school University of Hawaii at Hilo Sunday, Dec. 18 at 8:00 p.m. (PST) / 12:00 a.m. (CST)
