Fayette, Mo. - CMU Men's Basketball earned a much needed victory, knocking off Heart foe MidAmerica Nazarene, 84-67 Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles even both their overall and conference record at 9-9 and 6-6, while the Pioneers fall to 14-5 and 9-4.
Central jumped out to a 47-31 first halftime lead over MNU. Despite MidAmerica playing more evenly with the Eagles in the second half, CMU still came away with a convincing 17-point win.
Both teams were identical in shooting from the floor, as each finished the shooting 47.5-percent. Central did a majority of its damage from beyond the arc, knocking down 40-percent of its three-point attempts, compared to just 15.4-percent for the Pioneers.
The Eagles converted on 18-of-28 free throw attempts while MNU managed just nine-of-18 from the charity stripe. Central also held the edge on the glass, grabbing 39 rebounds compared to 34 for MidAmerica Nazarene.
The duo of Quinan Rieves and James Jordan each finished the evening with 15 points, while Everett Stubblefield tallied 12. Jaquan Morris and Trent Lyles added 11 points each to round out the double-digit scorers for CMU.
Marcus Anthony and Isaiah May nearly cracked double figures with nine points apiece. May also led the efforts on the glass with nine rebounds, followed by Rieves with eight and Jordan six.
Central heads back out on the road for a matchup against Baker University Saturday, Jan. 20 at 4:00 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
