Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team's upset bid of No. 15 nationally ranked Baker came up short Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
Central fell to the Wildcats by a final score of 72-64. CMU now stands at 6-4 and 3-3 in Heart of America play, while BU improves to 10-1 and a perfect 7-0 in conference action.
The first half was fairly even between both teams, as Baker held just a slight 32-29 lead heading into the halftime break. The Wildcats outscored Central 40-35 in the second half, using tough defense and timely three's to pull past CMU for an eight-point win.
Destin Jenkins led CMU in scoring with 17 points which included four three-point baskets. Senior forward Bol Tong followed with a double-double, tallying 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Reigning Heart Offensive Player of the Week, Marcus Anthony, nearly joined Tong in the double double club with 13 points and eight rebounds. The senior guard also tallied five steals and two assists.
CMU held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats, 51-38. But Baker shot 46.7 percent from the floor compared to just 29.6 percent for Central.
The Eagles return to road action where they will face Clarke University Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
