Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball program fended off a ferocious second half comeback from William Penn to secure a 102-99 win Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
With the win, Central improves to 6-2 and 2-0 in the Heart, while WPU drops to 5-3 and 0-2 in conference action.
The Eagles dropped 58 first half points to take a 10-point lead into the locker room at the halftime break. William Penn outscored CMU 51-44 in the second 20 minutes of action, and eventually tied the game on two different occasions with just moments remaining.
Despite only converting 66.7 percent of their free throw attempts, Central got clutch free throw makes from Isaiah Reams and Tyson Oghene down the stretch to help secure a three-point win.
Raphael Gay put out his best performance of the year, racking up 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed a game-best 15 rebounds to secure a double-double while also adding four assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Reams recorded his second 30-point performance in the last two games, scoring his 30 points on eight-of-11 shooting and 13-of-17 from the free throw line. Additionally, the senior guard dished out a team-high six assists in the win.
Both Davion Guity and Oghene tallied 11 points, while Tommie Williams added nine points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
CMU heads out on the road for another conference matchup against Park University Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Parkville, Missouri.
