Overland Park, Kan. - Central Methodist senior guard Tyson Oghene was named the Heart of America Men's Basketball Player of the Week by the conference office Monday.
It marks the first weekly honor for the native of Malmo, Sweden.
Oghene and the Eagles posted a 1-1 record on the week, including an overtime win over Culver-Stockton Wednesday, followed by a seven point loss to Grand View Saturday.
He averaged 28 points/game and shot 43.8 percent from the floor, 40.9 percent from three, and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe. Against the Vikings, the senior knocked down a season-high six three point baskets to keep Central within striking distance.
Additionally, Oghene averaged four rebounds and 3.5 assists/game.
Oghene and the Eagles currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the Heart of America Conference PRS standings. Central will next host Missouri Baptist, who is also in fourth place in the standings for a critical matchup for conference tournament seeding Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
