Second-Half Miscues Sink CMU Men Against Avila
The Central Methodist University men's soccer team gave up two goals in the second half as the Eagles suffered a 3-1 loss to Avila University Saturday evening.

CMU got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Murun Altanhuyag (Mongolia) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season off a pass from senior Pat McVey (St. Charles, Mo.) in the 11th minute of the match. Avila answered in the 43rd minute with a goal off a corner kick to tie the score at 1-1 at halftime. Avila took advantage of a pair of defensive miscues by CMU to add two more goals in the second half to pick up the 3-1 win.

The teams finished nearly even statistically, with CMU finishing with a 16-15 edge in shots, while Avila had eight shots on goal to CMU's seven. Freshman Jacob Goosey (Pleasant Hill, Mo.) played 90 minutes in his first collegiate start, picking up six saves while allowing three goals.

Central Methodist dropped to 6-8-1 overall and 0-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Avila improved to 5-8-2 and 2-4 in the HAAC. CMU will play its final home match of the season Wednesday, with a 7:15 p.m. contest against Lindenwood University. The Eagles will honor their eight seniors prior to the Senior Day match.
